Happy new years!
It’s currently the year of the pig now, but here I am still drawing dog, lul, but well, I was supposed to finish this about 1 week ago… Actually, the base sketch of this illustration is almost 1 year old, it’s something I drew back when I got Vajra, but it never ended up being finished because I got busy with other drawings and this drawing had lots of mistakes that kept triggering my OCD :S The drawing actually started out being full body, but I decided to just finish the top since it would take too much time for me to correct everything and I kinda want to move on too. It feels weird to pick up an old drawing after skills have been improved, also especially since I can’t remember everything I had in mind when I first started it back then.
Even now still, many aspects of the illustration are just wrong, but the mistakes are kinda hidden behind the wholesome impression of the picture – at least that’s how I feel. Also because the main view in this drawing is pretty much just the face alone, which also makes everything else less noticeable. At least I think I managed to do the face okay, lul.
The biggest problem in this drawing was the body, cause the old sketch I did had so many mistakes I didn’t notice until I went too far in. When I look back, it feels like different parts of the body is drawn proportionally to each other, but they are not all proportionally aligned. Making relative corrections was pretty hard cause if I changed 1 thing, the other would start to look wrong and it kinda just repeated as an evil cycle, so I decided to settle in the end.
The coloring in this drawing is also very rushed, and the only effort I put into it is the hair, where as the rest was done faster. There are so many things I want to draw, so I didn’t want this to keep be delayed much longer, a very bad habit of mine when it comes to drawings, lul. I mean, I could technically have made an even less quality one and uploaded, but I guess I can’t get myself to do that.
I wanted to make the composition more interesting in this one before I posted, so I tried the add the shade at the top to create some contrast in the illustration as a whole. I am not sure how well this looks to others, but I think it helped? I also added some quick lighting effect to create a blooming effect, but it didn’t really go that well since it was quite rushed.
Although this could have been done much better, I think managed to finish some pretty acceptable to upload and doesn’t pale in comparison to the other stuff I made. I haven’t managed to finish lots of drawings in 2018 either, I hope I can do better this year, lol, should hopefully be better when I graduate bachelor. There is a lot of stuff I gotta work on, I have to work harder if I want to improve more, I’ll hopefully do better this year!
